Commercial General Contractors Level 2 in Oregon

The Commercial General Contractor Level 2 (CGC2) license is Oregon's highest commercial construction credential, issued by the Oregon CCB for contractors managing large-scale commercial construction projects of any size and complexity. There are currently 5,796 active CGC2 licenses in Oregon.

A CGC2 license authorizes contractors to manage commercial construction projects without restriction on project size or value. This includes office buildings, retail spaces, industrial facilities, multi-family residential buildings (5+ units), schools, healthcare facilities, and other commercial structures. The CGC2 is the required license for any Oregon commercial project exceeding the thresholds covered by the CGC1 license.

CGC2 requirements are significantly more stringent than residential licenses: contractors must demonstrate documented commercial construction experience, maintain higher bond and insurance minimums, and pass CCB examination requirements. The ongoing insurance and bonding obligations reflect the larger financial exposure of commercial projects.

When verifying a CGC2 contractor for a commercial project, confirm that the license status is Active, that bond and insurance amounts are appropriate for the project size, and review the contractor's complaint and disciplinary history at the official CCB database. For large commercial contracts, the CCB also recommends considering a performance bond in addition to the standard CCB surety bond - the CCB surety bond is designed for smaller residential disputes and may not provide adequate coverage for large commercial projects.
