An RGC license authorizes contractors to manage entire residential construction projects, including new home construction, full home renovations, room additions, and multi-trade remodels. Unlike specialty contractors, a Residential General Contractor can hire and coordinate licensed subcontractors - electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians - under a single contract with the homeowner. To hold an active RGC license, a contractor must maintain a CCB surety bond (minimum $20,000) and general liability insurance at Oregon-required minimums. The CCB verifies both at licensing and at every renewal. Oregon law requires RGC contractors to carry workers' compensation insurance if they employ workers.
